Reflective Practice

What is reflective practice?

Reflective practice provides an opportunity for staff to step back from the day-to-day, explore their experiences, and make sense of the emotional and relational aspects of their work.

Through guided reflection, shared insight, and supportive discussion, participants can:

  • Strengthen personal and team resilience.
  • Process the impact of demanding or emotionally complex work.
  • Deepen self-awareness, empathy and professional confidence.
  • Enhance communication, trust and collaboration.

Reflective practice helps organisations build a culture of openness, learning and care – one that sustains wellbeing and improves service quality.

Why Reflective Practice Matters

Reflective practice supports both individual wellbeing and organisational effectiveness.

For individuals

  • Strengthens wellbeing and resilience.
  • Reduces the impact of vicarious trauma and workplace stress.
  • Enhances self-awareness, empathy and professional confidence.

For teams and organisations

  • Improves communication, trust and collaboration.
  • Encourages reflective learning and continuous improvement.
  • Enhances decision-making, creativity and problem-solving.
  • Supports staff retention, morale and service quality.

Reflective practice is both a wellbeing intervention and a professional development tool – helping teams to sustain the heart of their work.

Our approach

We tailor reflective practice sessions to suit each organisation’s needs and context.

  • Format: In-person sessions are most common, but online or hybrid delivery is also available.
  • Frequency: Typically monthly, 90-minute sessions.
  • Group size: Up to 8 participants per group.
  • Facilitation: Two experienced facilitators with expertise in trauma-informed and relational practice.
  • Methodology: Based on established reflective models such as Arabella Kurtz’s Intersubjective Model of Reflective Practice Groups, alongside person-centred and trauma-informed principles.
  • Evaluation: Participant feedback and wellbeing check-ins to assess impact and support ongoing learning.
